INDIANAPOLIS – Gamecock All-America diver Allison Brennan has been named one of 14 divers to the USA Diving team roster for the XV FINA Diving World Cup, to be held July 19-23 in Changshu, China. Brennan will represent USA on the 1-meter board.
International competition is nothing new to the Huntington Beach, Calif. native. Although, this marks the first World Cup for Brennan, in 2005, she finished fourth on the one-meter at the World University Games in Turkey, and in 2004, she competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials.
A four-time All-American, Brennan capped her career at USC this past spring when she finished second in the one-meter at the NCAA Championships and ninth in the three-meter. She claimed the SEC title on both boards and was named USC’s Co-Female Athlete of the Year. In 2004, Brennan was the NCAA Champion on the one-meter, marking the first ever, individual national championship in USC history.
The roster includes 2004 World Cup platform champion Laura Wilkinson (Spring, Texas), who joins two other Olympians – Cassandra Cardinell (Loudonville, N.Y) and Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) – on the World Cup team. Also included on the roster are 2005 U.S. national champions David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.), Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) and Thomas Finchum (Indianapolis, Ind.). World Cup competition will be conducted in 1-meter springboard, 3-meter springboard, 10-meter platform, 3-meter synchro and 10-meter synchro for both men and women.
Nine of the 14 divers selected have won medals in international competition in 2006. The men’s 3-meter synchro team of Dumais and Mitch Richeson (Greenwood, Ind.) have won silver and bronze medals, and the women’s 3-meter synchro team of Bryant and Ariel Rittenhouse (Santa Cruz, Calif.) also won a silver medal. Dumais won an individual 3-meter bronze as well, and Wilkinson (10-meter), Cardinell/Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ill.) (10-meter synchro) and Boudia/Finchum (10-meter) also have claimed bronze medals in 2006 international meets.
