COLUMBIA, S.C. — Four Gamecocks from the South Carolina men’s track and field team received academic praise from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday. Brook Antonio, Thomas Hilliard, Dan McKenzie and Jason Richardson all garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic individual citations.
“We’re very proud of our athletes and in particular, those who have achieved academic excellence,” head coach Curtis Frye said. “All of them have achieved excellence on the field as well. They have scored at the SEC and NCAA meets. Coaching student-athletes who achieve in the classroom and score at the NCAA meet is an exception to the rule, but we challenge all of them to reach that level.”
South Carolina’s men’s track and field program received a multitude of other academic accolades during the spring. Twenty-one Gamecocks were listed among the SEC Academic Honor Roll, which includes those with a least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The University’s President’s List included three student-athletes, and the Dean’s List had four from the men’s squad. President’s List honorees are those who achieve a 4.0 semester GPA, while the Dean’s List is comprised of students with a minimum 3.5 GPA.
