University of South Carolina tight end Andy Boyd has been granted a sixth-year of eligibility, the athletics department learned today. He will be eligible to return for the 2007 season.
Boyd, a 6-4, 265-pounder from Concord, N.C., has been plagued by knee injuries throughout his Carolina career, limiting him to just 12 games over the past three seasons. He missed the entire 2003 season after tearing his ACL during pre-season practice, then played in just two games of the 2005 campaign before suffering another season-ending ACL injury.
During his career Boyd has caught two passes, both for touchdowns, one coming against Ole Miss in 2004 and the other against UCF in 2005.
