Showing his long-term commitment level to the University, South Carolina Head Football Coach Steve Spurrier announced today that he is pledging $250,000 over the next five years to the Athletics Department’s capital campaign.

“Jerri and I are very excited about the future of South Carolina Athletics and we plan to be here a long time,” said Coach Spurrier. “I’m fortunate to be one of the highest paid employees of the University and I feel a strong responsibility to give back to the school. All of the Gamecock fans that I have talked to want us to compete against the likes of a Florida, Georgia or Tennessee and to do that consistently, we need to improve our athletics facilities to their level. I hope all of the Gamecock Nation will join me in this fundraising effort,” added Coach Spurrier.

“To achieve our dreams, it will take our entire Gamecock family to be supportive,” said Athletics Director Eric Hyman. “Steve’s magnanimous gift shows what a dedicated team member he is in assisting us to achieve our aspirations.”

The Athletics Department is diligently working on a master plan of facilities that is expected to be unveiled in October. The silent phase of a capital campaign is currently underway. The proceeds from the campaign will help underwrite new and improved facilities for the entire athletics department.
