The University of South Carolina football squad (5-2, 3-2 SEC) continued its preparations for Saturday night’s tilt with eighth-ranked Tennessee (6-1, 2-1 SEC) by working out at the Bluff Road practice fields on Wednesday afternoon. Following the practice session, head coach Steve Spurrier met with the media:
On having more success on the road than at home this season: “We had our two toughest opponents at home. We just didn’t play well in the red zone. Those were our two worst red zone games. That’s the way that turned out. Hopefully this one will not be.”
“Matt Raysor is back on defense. He’ll probably stay on defense. He’s more of defensive player we found out.”
On Josh Brown’s 49-yard field goal last year at Tennessee: “He was halfway out there. I didn’t know what to do. I figured it real fast – it was 49 yards because we were on the 32. He said, “Field goal, right Coach?” I said, “Right on. Kick it.” He wanted it. When a kicker wants it, it makes a coach’s decision easy. If he had been hiding behind the benches, we would have tried to throw for it or something. Josh is not supposed to make 49-yard field goals. It just happened.”
The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Thursday afternoon.
