Coach Dave Odom quotes
Dec. 29, 2006, vs. Jacksonville
Other than the fact that we won, it was a very disappointing performance. We let down defensively, had a 16-point lead and let it get down to 10.
You don’t knock out a team that plays as hard as they do very easily.
Playing without Tre’ the last six minutes was a welcome lesson, if we ever run into that situation again. We did OK defensively, but we were unsure of ourselves on offense. And that’s a bad sign.
We were out of sync offensively. Just a disappointing performance. I really thought we would play much better.
On the staggered start: In truth, we should be able to adjust better. It was the same for both teams.
Tre’ did something to his knee. It didn’t feel right. Then he hit it again at the 8-minute mark. He gets beat up a good bit. He puts himself in the fray a lot, gets a lot of body contact. I’m not surprised he would get cracked.
USC Player Quotes
Brandon Wallace
(on when Tre’ went out): “We have to find someone to make a stop when Tre’ Kelley goes out. It’s a win, but we have a lot to work on. They played hard and they never give up. They played Georgia really hard, too. The older guys know how to play back-to-back gmes, but the younger guys might have had a problem.
“They were running at us and they made conditioning a factor. We have to work on that when we go to practice.”
Bryce Sheldon
“Tre’ is the point guard and when he is out we have to play. We didn’t attack the ball when he went out. They are a good team. (on the bowl game before effecting play tonight): Everyone was focused and we were ready to play. We watched a little (of the football game), but we were ready. We were ready when we came out.”
