COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina’s women’s tennis team hosts the Winthrop Eagles on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the USC Indoor Field House.

The Gamecocks moved to 2-0 on the year with a 7-0 sweep of Furman a week ago in Greenville, S.C. Gira Schofield, Ana Marija Zubori, Laura Ganzer and Christyn Lucas all moved to 2-0 in dual singles matches this season with the victory. Megan McGavock played in her first dual singles contest and registered a straight-set win, and Natasa Vuckovic rebounded from a loss against East Tennessee State with a victory in straight sets as well.

Winthrop enters Wednesday’s match-up having lost its first four against quality competition. Most recently, the Eagles dropped a 7-0 decision at Georgia on Friday. Winthrop’s other losses have all come on the road at Mississippi, Davidson and North Carolina. In total, Winthrop plays its first 10 matches away from home and will not play in Rock Hill, S.C., until March 9 hosting Armstrong Atlantic and Radford.

Despite the close proximity of the two schools, South Carolina and Winthrop have just three other prior meetings, which have come in each of the past three seasons. The Gamecocks have won all three matches by 6-1 scores.

After playing Winthrop, the Gamecocks will host Davidson at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
