COLUMBIA, S.C. — The 3-0 South Carolina women’s tennis team will look to remain unbeaten when it hosts the Davidson Wildcats on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the USC Field House.

The Gamecocks posted a 7-0 victory over Winthrop on Wednesday in Columbia, S.C., winning every match for the first time this year. South Carolina’s other victories have come against East Tennessee State (6-1) and Furman (7-0).

Davidson sits at 3-2 entering its two matches against Radford and Queens today. The Wildcats were 4-3 winners over Winthrop to open the season and rolled to two more wins against the likes of Gardner-Webb (7-0) and South Carolina State (5-2). Davidson’s two losses were to Virginia (0-7) and Marshall (3-4).

Sunday marks the sixth meeting between the two schools with South Carolina holding a 5-0 record in the series. Last year in Columbia, the Gamecocks triumphed 7-0 in their second match of the season and won every position. Since the series began in 1994, Carolina has never surrendered a point to the Wildcats.

Four Gamecocks are 3-0 in dual singles matches this year with Gira Schofield owning a perfect slate at the No. 1 slot, Ana Marija Zubori at two, Christyn Lucas at No. 5 and Laura Ganzer at three and four singles. South Carolina is a combined 17-1 in singles.

USC has been almost as impressive with its doubles play, going a combined 7-2. The duo of Lucas and Natasa Vuckovic has played to the tune of a 3-0 record, splitting time at the second and third spots. Schofield and Zubori are 2-1 at the top of the lineup, and Ganzer is 2-1 partnering with Miranda Gutierrez for a match and Megan McGavock for two contests.

After Sunday, South Carolina is on the road for its next two matches playing at N.C. State on Saturday, Feb. 24, at noon and Clemson on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. The Gamecocks then host Marshall at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28.
