March 15, 2007

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -The University of South Carolina men’s and women’s track and field teams will open up the 2007 outdoor season at the annual Hurricane Invitational held Thursday through Saturday at Cobb Stadium on the University of Miami campus.

“Our training has gone really well this week. Everyone has been cooperative and doing everything we ask,” said USC Head Coach Curtis Frye. “This is going to be a great meet. The Texas men and Wisconsin men are here – so many strong athletes. We aren’t going to try to get hurt this week running because we really worked hard this week, but we are going to run everybody, with the exception of Keith Hinnant, Thomas Hilliard, Natasha Hastings and Shalonda Solomon. We are shooting for top 10 on both sides outdoors. It’s possible – we just have to work to get some people healthy.”

Including Miami the three-day invite will feature athletes from 20 different teams including the ACC’s Duke as well as the SEC’s South Carolina and Tennessee and the Big XII’s Texas.

Competition is slated to begin Thursday and Friday with the men’s and women’s heptathlon and decathlon. Saturday’s action, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., will consist of 22 combined men’s and women’s events.
