Columbia, SC – Carolina’s Reanna Townsend won the heptathlon at the Hurricane Invitational Friday in Miami. The Hurricane Invitational is the season opener for the Gamecocks outdoors.

“Reanna competed really well the last two days,” said USC head coach Curtis Frye. “We are all really proud of her winning as a senior – good character.”

USC will compete in the final day of the Hurricane Invitational on Miami’s campus on Saturday.

Townsend scored 4586 points to win her first career hep as a senior. She ran a 14.43 in the 100m hurdles to start the hep and finished with a time of 2:44.87 in the finals of the 800m.

Sarah Williams was fourth in the hep with 4351 points.

On the men’s side, Curt McGill finished 11th at 5903 and Scott Pierce finished 12th with 5770 in a very competitive decathalon.
