Columbia, SC – In the final day of the Hurricane Invitational, Ronnetta Alexander won the 100m hurdles, Crystal Cantey won the 400m hurdles and Dan McKenzie won the pole vault with NCAA regional qualifying times/marks. USC qualified six women and two relays and two men and a relay for the NCAA Regional in Gainesville in late May.
Alexander ran a 13.52 to win the hurdles’ race. Also qualifying for USC in the hurdles were Chiquita Martin (4th, 13.78) and Trier Young (5th, 13.81).
Dan McKenzie won the pole vault with an NCAA regional mark of 5.05m. In another field event Tyler Trout was the runner-up in the discus at 161′ 5. Trout later picked up a regional qualifying mark to finish third in the hammer at 192′ 11.
Cantey ran a 58.35 to qualify for the NCAA Regional. Martin was third at 59.49 to also pick up a qualifying mark.
On the men’s side Ray Miley was the runner-up in the 400m, hitting an NCAA regional mark of 47.13.
USC’s men’s 4x400m relay, which finished third at the NCAA Indoor Championships, won the meet with a time of 3:11.43.
Brandi Cross was the runner-up in the 400, running an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 54.11. NCAA indoor champion and collegiate record setter Natasha Hastings did not compete and will open her outdoor season next weekend in Arizona.
USC’s women’s 4x100m relay finished third and qualified for the regionals with a time of 45.24. The women’s 4x400m relay won that event with a regional-qualifying time of 3:37.73.
Sallie Gurganus was the runner-up in the pole vault, hitting 3.70m.
