The University of South Carolina has agreed to future non-conference football games with UAB, East Carolina and Troy, it was announced today.

UAB will visit Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia on Sept. 27, 2008, completing the Gamecocks’ non-conference portion of the schedule for that season. Carolina previously announced non-conference games with North Carolina State (Aug. 28), Wofford (Sept. 20) and at Clemson (Nov. 29) for the 2008 campaign. The Gamecocks and Blazers from Conference USA have met one time previously on the gridiron with Carolina posting a 42-10 win in 2003.

South Carolina and East Carolina have agreed on a five-year series that features two games in Columbia (2012 and 2016), two games at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. (Sept. 3, 2011 and Aug. 30, 2014) and one game at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, N.C. (2015). Specific dates have not yet been finalized for the games outside of Charlotte. The Gamecocks and Pirates have met 15 times previously, all between 1977 and 1999, with South Carolina winning 10 of those contests. East Carolina is a member of Conference USA.

“We look forward to the challenge of playing East Carolina in the years to come,” said South Carolina Head Coach Steve Spurrier. “Skip Holtz has done a super job of turning that football program into a very good team. We also look forward to playing in Charlotte, a city where we have a lot of Gamecock fans. We hope to recruit that city well in the future.”

The Gamecocks have also agreed to play two home games against the Troy Trojans out of the Sun Belt Conference. The first contest is set for Sept. 4, 2010, while the second game is set for a date to be determined during the 2014 campaign. The Gamecocks have won both of their previous encounters with the Trojans, winning by a 17-7 count in 2004 and by a 45-20 margin in 2005.
