COLUMBIA, S.C. –
The South Carolina women’s swimming team earned top academic honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for its outstanding effort in the classroom during the 2006-07 academic year. Carolina leads the list of Division I institutions that received Academic All-America Team honors with a 3.606 cumulative team grade point average. The Gamecock men’s team also earned Academic All-America Team honors with a 2.829 overall GPA.

The Gamecock women edged out Iona (3.580), the newly re-established team from Vanderbilt (3.563) and Butler (3.562). In all, 111 Division I women’s teams earned Academic All-America honors. Nine had GPAs of 3.50 or better, while 104 scored 3.0 or higher.

The men of Georgetown University posted the top Division I team GPA at 3.50. They were followed by Dartmouth (3.40) and Denver (3.394). In all, a total of 78 men’s squads earned the academic honor.
