CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The South Carolina women’s tennis team completed six singles matches and three doubles contests Friday against William & Mary at the inaugural UVa Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.

Gamecock sophomore Ana Marija Zubori, ranked No. 77 in the preseason singles poll, defeated 90th-ranked Ragini Acharya in straight sets 7-6, 6-4. Freshman Miljana Jocic also won her match versus Lauren Sabacinski 6-1, ret. Senior Megan McGavock was South Carolina’s other winner on the day, a 7-5, 4-6, (10-6) decision over Barbara Zidek.

Two Gamecocks were defeated in three-set matches. Junior and No. 36-rated Gira Schofield suffered a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 setback to No. 46 Katarina Zoricic and junior transfer Suzanna Mansour lost 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 against Magdalena Bresson. Carolina junior Natasa Vuckovic fell in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 to Klaudyna Kasztelaniec.

In doubles, South Carolina came up on the short end of all three matches. Schofield and Zubori were defeated 8-6 by Acharya and Zoricic, while Mansour and Vuckovic were dropped 8-4 by Bresson and Kasztelaniec. The duo of Sabacinski and Zidek won 8-3 over Jocic and McGavock as well.

Play at the UVa Invitational continues Saturday morning.
