COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina’s women’s tennis team continues its fall season Friday through Sunday at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C.
The Gamecocks begin play with doubles action at 9 a.m. Friday. The duo of junior Gira Schofield and sophomore Ana Marija Zubori will face Fanjoy/Grabinski of North Carolina in flight one, while juniors Suzanna Mansour and Natasa Vuckovic face a UNC tandem as well in Jurewitz/Reichert in flight two. For flight three, freshman Miljana Jocic and senior Megan McGavock take on Dohanics/Holzberg from Penn State.

Three Gamecocks start their singles matches at 1 p.m. Schofield faces Jeyla Morzan of Penn State in flight one, Zubori squares off with Jenny Shular, also from PSU, in flight two and Vuckovic will meet with Chelsea Nusslock from Wisconsin. At 2:30 p.m., Mansour and Jocic take the court against Sophie Grabinski of North Carolina and Ekaterina Mirnova from Wisconsin in flights four and five. McGavock plays her match with Penn State’s Lauren Holzberg at 3 p.m. in flight six.

Two members of the Carolina squad are among the national singles rankings this fall, led by Schofield at 36th. It marks the highest ranking of Schofield’s career, as her previous best was No. 39 during fall 2006. Zubori is ranked 77th, also a career best. Schofield and Zubori also are ranked as a doubles team at No. 23.
Jocic and McGavock are both off to 3-0 starts this fall after South Carolina’s first tournament in Charlottesville, Va., the past weekend. Schofield and Mansour went 2-1 at the event, and Schofield registered a win against the nation’s No. 26-ranked player in Tatsiana Uvarova of VCU 6-1, 6-3. Zubori and Vuckovic are both 1-2.
