KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams traveled to the University of Tennessee on Friday for a tri-meet against No. 11/12 (men/women) Tennessee and No. 18 (women) Kentucky in SEC action. The Lady Vols defeated USC, 213-87, in their home pool, while the Gamecocks also suffered a 183-117 loss to the Wildcats. On the men’s side, No. 11 Tennessee defeated USC 202-96.
For the Gamecock women, Claire (10:04.52) and Christine (10:14.20) Thompson finished second and third, respectively, in the women’s 1000 freestyle event. Claire’s time was the top Gamecock mark this season in the event. Christy Williams turned in her top time of the season in the 200 butterfly, posting a 2:02.60 to finish second.
Christine Thompson also turned in a strong performance in the 500-yard freestyle event, finishing third in a time of 5:03.72. Carolina took two of the top three spots in the women’s 200 IM, as Amanda Dunnigan (2:06.99) and Williams (2:07.54) finished second and third, respectively.
The women’s divers competed well in Friday’s conference battle. Taryn Zack continued a stellar freshman season, finishing second in the one-meter (269.15) and third in the three-meter (270.45) event. Allison Barr also competed for the Gamecocks, finishing fifth in the one-meter (226.55) and seventh in the three-meter (221.95) dive.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will travel to Clemson on Nov. 3 in a non-conference meet against the Tigers. The meet will begin at 2 p.m.
