BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of South Carolina freshman swimmer Claire Thompson has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Thompson captured three first-place finishes in the Gamecocks’ victory over intrastate rival Clemson on Saturday, their first of the season. The award marks the first such of her career.

Thompson posted season-low marks in the 500- (4:55.89) and 1000-yard freestyle (10:03.95) events, while adding a top finish in the 200 free (1:50.40). Thompson has captured the 500- and 200- yard freestyle events in three-of-four meets this season, while she has finished atop the 1000 free twice, including against SEC foe LSU earlier this season.

South Carolina continues its season at the Alabama Invite, Nov. 30-Dec. 2, in Tuscaloosa.
