CONWAY, S.C. – The University of South Carolina posted six first-place finishes in the second day of competition at the Shamrock Invitational held at the Coastal Carolina Track and Field facility Friday. Curt McGill led the Gamecocks with a career-best 6,609 points to win the men’s decathlon while the men’s and women’s 4×200-meter relay teams both took first in Friday’s final.

McGill never let go of his first place showing after Thursday’s opening round in the decathlon after running past the competition in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.32 for 811 points. Other decathlon events Friday included the discus throw (118-03), pole vault (12-9 ½), javelin throw (139-02) and the 1500-meter run. Scott Pierce also set a career-best with 6,394 points to take fourth overall. Pierce recorded marks of 16.31 in the 110-meter hurdles, 110-6 in the discus throw, 11-5 ¾ in the pole vault, 140-00 in the javelin throw and ran the 1500-meter run in 4:26.10.

The women’s 4×200-meter relay took first in a time of 1:38.94. The team consisted of this year’s 4×400-meter indoor All-Americans Brandi Cross, Porche Byrd, Krystal Cantey and Faraign Giles. The men’s 4×200-meter relay team also took first in a time of 1:25.78. Aaron Anderson, Johnny Dutch, Derron Flood and Jamil James ran in the event for the Gamecocks.

Carolina took first in three preliminary rounds, beginning with Jason Richardson’s 13.62 in the 110-meter hurdles. Johnny Dutch took fifth in the event at 14.31.

The Gamecocks recorded a 1-2-3 finish in the men’s 100-meter dash preliminary round with Lamar Markett taking first. Markett ran a 10.58, followed by Antonio Sales at 10.60 and Johnathan Hancock at 10.63.

Lakya Brookins took first in the women’s 100-meter dash preliminary round at 11.63 with Gabrielle Glenn coming in second at 11.92. Other Gamecock qualifiers in preliminary rounds include Brittney James, Krystal Cantey and Bianca Blair in the 100-meter hurdles, along with Dishari’ck Howze and CaAdrian Norman in the 100-meter dash.

Saturday’s final round will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude with the 4×400-meter relays at 4:45 p.m.
