CONWAY, S.C. – The University of South Carolina track and field team finished with eight first-place finishers on the final day of the Shamrock Invitational at Coastal Carolina University.
The Gamecocks closed out their sweep of the sprint relays posting first place finishes in the Men’s and Women’s 4×400 relays (Men’s-3:06.59, Women’s-3:43.48) and also the 4×100 relays (Men’s-40.77, Women’s 45.80). South Carolina’s Men’s B Team placed second in the 4×100 with a time of 40.85.
Krystal Cantey won the Women’s 400 Hurdles with a qualifying time of 59.63. In the 100m, the Gamecocks finished 1-2 with Lakya Brookins winning with a time of 11.63 and Gabrielle Glenn with a time of 11.75. Porche Byrd took first in the 400 at 53.09.
In the field events, Liza Todd cleared 3.50m (11-11.75) in the pole vault for a second-place finish while Brittany James finished second in the long jump with a jump of 6.05m (19-10.25).
On the men’s side, there was another 1-2 finish in the 100m. Johnathan Hancock sprinted for a 10.44 time and Lamar Markett finished at 10.48-both were qualifying times. Carolina also excelled in the hurdles with first place finishes in the 110m Hurdles (Jason Richardson-13.47) and the 400m Hurdles (Johnny Dutch-51.36). Dutch placed second in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 14.13. Lamar Markett posted a time of 21.35 in the 200m for a third place finish.
Jason Cook won the men’s shot with a throw of 17.57m (57-07.75) with fellow Gamecock David Zaycek finishing third with a throw of 15.76m (51-08.50). In the triple jump, Derek Pressley jumped 15.05m (49-04.50) for a third place finish.
South Carolina will be back in action at home this Saturday for the Weems Baskins Invitational.
