MANCHESTER, England – South Carolina junior swimmer Nicholas Walkotten finished fifth in the 200-meter butterfly at the Ninth Annual FINA Short Course World Championships on Saturday. When converted to the NCAA standard yards, Walkotten’s mark of 1:53.02 in the race converts to a 1:41.27, which is .06 seconds better than the time that won the 2008 NCAA Championship 200-yard butterfly (1:41.33). Walkotten clocked the USA’s highest finish in the event.
Walkotten also swam in the 50-meter butterfly on Friday during the championship, finishing 11th with a mark of 23.39, while the Hudsonville, Mich., native collected 12th place in the 100-meter butterfly (51.73) earlier in the week.
