The South Carolina Gamecocks returned to the practice fields Tuesday night for a two-hour workout in very pleasant weather conditions. The squad was dressed in full pads.

“We had a so-so practice,” said Head Coach Steve Spurrier following the session. “We got a lot of snaps in. A couple of the guys started pushing and jawing so we actually cut it short and ran a little extra tonight. Nothing serious. We’ll let most of the young guys play again (in Wednesday’s scrimmage) – guys that haven’t played much. Chris (Smelley) and Tommy (Beecher) will play.”

Defensive lineman Melvin Ingram has switched to number 50. Ingram wore number 6 last season while playing linebacker and donned the number 32 this fall when he was penciled in at fullback. Cornerback Mike Newton has switched from number 42 to number 35.

The team will work out twice on Wednesday, going in a closed morning practice before having an open practice in the evening. The team will begin the evening practice at the “Proving Grounds” before moving into the stadium at around 8 pm for a scrimmage.

“Hopefully we’ll get a few people in the stands tomorrow,” added Coach Spurrier.
