Head Coach Steve Spurrier met with the media for his weekly press conference on Sunday afternoon in the Crews Building team meeting room. Here are some excerpts from the press conference:
On the quarterback for this week and this season:
“We’re probably going to need two quarterbacks. Guys get hit all the time. The best thing is to always have two to maximize our talent this year.”
“Tommy [Beecher] was not able to practice yesterday. When he ran in there, he got hit in the head a little bit, but he also had a little shoulder problem, his left shoulder. The trainers think he’s going to be ready by Thursday’s game.”
On the role of conditioning on play in the fourth quarter:
“I certainly believe the team is in good shape, well conditioned. I don’t think we played a tremendous amount of players, but it was a fast game. We only had 69 plays, a lot of running. When there’s a lot of running and the clock keeps going, that’s a fast game.”
On clearing up the number of false start calls:
“We’re going to try as hard as we can to look like a well-coached team. We’ll pay attention to everything.”
On preparing for Vanderbilt:
“Defensively Vandy’s a very good team. We’ve got to execute, protect the quarterback run and everything. We’re looking forward to see if we can improve.”
On personnel changes:
“We’re going to give Jarriel [King] every opportunity to nail that left tackle spot and be a big solid forced for us in that position.”
