The South Carolina Gamecocks worked out on Wednesday afternoon at the Bluff Road practice fields as they continued preparations for Saturday’s showdown against second-ranked Georgia. The Gamecocks (1-1, 0-1 SEC) will host the Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0 SEC) at 3:30 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium in front of full house and a national television audience watching on CBS.

“We had a good practice today,” said Head Coach Steve Spurrier following Wednesday’s workout. “It was a nice, muggy day. It’s supposed to be muggy on Saturday, so hopefully our guys got a good hard workout. We had a lot of tired Gamecocks out here so we’re going to try our best to be in the best shape possible. We’re going to play a lot of people, we need to play a lot of people come Saturday afternoon.”

Coach Spurrier declined to name a starting quarterback on Wednesday. “We’re still practicing all three of them. We’ll make an announcement whenever its time I guess. (Stephen) Garcia gets a bunch (of snaps). He’s still sort of lost at times – he still doesn’t know where everybody’s going, but he’s making a little bit of improvement here and there.”

The Gamecocks will welcome senior offensive lineman Jamon Meredith back into the fold this week after he sat out the first two games due to an eligibility issue. “He was trying to play tackle and a little bit of guard. He’s able to play both of those positions,” said Coach Spurrier.

The Gamecocks will work out again on Thursday afternoon.
