University of South Carolina punter Spencer Lanning has been selected as the Southeastern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced today.

Lanning, a 5-11, 182-pound sophomore from Rock Hill, S.C. punted a season-high eight times for a 45.0 yard average with three kicks inside the 20-yard line in South Carolina’s 27-6 win over Tennessee on Saturday night. Lanning had two punts that traveled 50-plus yards and averaged 41.1 net yards per punt. Tennessee’s average starting field position for the eight punts was its own 22-yard line.

Lanning becomes the fifth Gamecock to be honored by the SEC this season. Previous winners were Ryan Succop (Special Teams vs. UAB); Chris Smelley (Offense vs. Ole Miss); Captain Munnerlyn (Special Teams vs. Kentucky); and Stephen Garcia (Freshman vs. Kentucky).
