Dec. 10, 2008
From the desk of Eric Hyman
We’ve been awarded a great opportunity with an invitation to play in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day in Tampa, Florida. This is great news for our players, coaches, staff and all of Gamecock Nation!
Without question, our passionate fan base has helped to make this a reality. Team record, conference finish, and a fan base that will support its team by purchasing tickets and traveling to the bowl destination all factor into the selection process. The Gamecock Nation not only proves this every Saturday of football season, but also demonstrated its commitment specifically to Tampa in 2001 and 2002.
We have many reasons to be proud of South Carolina football. We are going to a 14th bowl and playing on New Year’s Day (or later) for only the 5th time in the program’s 115 year history. The Gamecocks have posted a .500 or better record for the fifth straight year, the longest such streak since 1928-34, and Coach Spurrier has the most wins of any coach in his first four years with the program.
For now and the future, it’s important that we show our support of the Gamecocks through the purchase of bowl tickets. Please contact the South Carolina ticket office first when making bowl preparations.
- Sit with fellow Gamecock fans
- Tickets available for any Gamecock fan
- Pay fewer ticket fees ($10 per order fee as opposed to $10 per ticket fee)
- Make the ticket count for South Carolina (Only tickets purchased through South Carolina Athletics will be credited as Gamecock fans thus helping secure future bowls)

We look forward to beginning 2009 on a positive note with a win in this prestigious bowl game. In addition, we hope to celebrate this victory with as many Gamecock fans as possible traveling to Tampa for a winter vacation.
Thank you and Happy Holidays!
