COLUMBIA, S.C.Kyle Cormier from the South Carolina swimming and diving team has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.

Cormier broke a school record, earned his second NCAA `B’ cut of the season and improved on his first `B’ time at the U.S. Short Course Nationals in Atlanta, advancing to finals in all three of his events.

The senior broke an 8-year-old school record in the 200-yard freestyle as he touched fifth in the `A’ final with a B cut time of 1:35.63, the fastest of any SEC swimmer at the meet. In prelims for the 200, he tied for the third fastest time (1:36.21) along with Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte.

Cormier also set a personal best in the 200 IM and earned his second `B’ cut of the season with a 1:47.50, finishing 19th overall.

Cormier fell just short of a personal best in the 100 free with a 43.95 in Saturday’s finals, just a hair from his PR of 43.93 and a B cut time of 43.73.
