COLUMBIA, S.C. – A seventh-inning RBI double from freshman Evan Childs was not enough for South Carolina, as the Gamecocks fell in the second game of the doubleheader, 3-1, on Saturday to No. 2 Florida at Beckham Field.

The Gamecocks (12-4, 0-2 SEC) put a run on the board in the seventh when Childs lined the 1-1 pitch from Gator starter Stephanie Brombacher (11-0) to the wall in right center, plating pinch runner Kaitlin Westfall. Westfall came on after sophomore P.J. Fulmer drew a leadoff walk. Brombacher came back to strike out the side and slam the door on Carolina’s hopes.

Florida (21-2, 2-0 SEC) posted a run in the first thanks to Kelsey Bruder’s blast to left center. The Gators added two more in the fourth, as Michelle Moultrie and Kristina Hilberth both had RBI hits in the frame. Moultrie hit a two-out double to the gap in left, sending home pinch runner Danyell Hines. Hilberth followed with her single back through the middle, scoring Moultrie.

Brombacher went the distance, allowing four hits, two walks and one earned run while striking out seven in her 11th win. Gamecock redshirt sophomore Krystle Robinson (1-2) got the loss, giving up all three earned runs on six hits. She did not walk a batter while sitting down three.

The Gamecocks and Gators wrap up the series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch set at Beckham Field.
