FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Two two-run home runs propelled the Arkansas Razorbacks to a 4-0 win over South Carolina in the first game of the doubleheader at Bogle Park on Wednesday afternoon. The loss dropped South Carolina to 12-6 on the year and 0-4 in Southeastern Conference play, while Arkansas moved to 12-9 and 1-0 in league action.

The Razorbacks took the lead in the fourth on Sandra Smith’s homer to left. Smith followed Amie Hubbard’s single with a shot on the 2-2 offering. They tacked on two more in the fifth when Whitney Cloer crushed the first pitch she saw for a two-run blast. Scoring on the play was Tori Mort, who reached on a fielder’s choice the pitch prior to Cloer’s shot that landed beyond the outer fence of Arkansas’s new stadium.

Kim Jones (4-4) went the distance, striking out six while allowing four hits and two walks in the shutout. Jones worked around her hits, stranding seven Gamecocks on base, including at least one in five of the seven innings. Audrey Broyles (6-4) got the loss, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits while fanning eight.
