BATON ROUGE, La. – Scoring seven of eight runs with two outs, the No. 19/21 LSU Tigers took a 8-0 win in five innings over the South Carolina Gamecocks in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Park.

Tiger centerfielder Kirsten Shortridge went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI to lead the Tigers. Sophomore P.J. Fulmer and freshman Lauren Lackey both had singles for the Gamecocks (20-20, 5-17 SEC).

The Tigers (28-14-1, 11-9-1 SEC) posted a run in the first thanks mostly to the work of Shortridge. She got an infield single, stole second, moved to third on Jazz Jackson’s groundout and scored on Rachel Mitchell’s sacrifice fly.

LSU added four in the second thanks to Shortridge’s two-out grand slam. Anissa Young reached first via a one-out error. Casey Faile followed with a single, while Morgan Russell loaded the bags after being hit by a pitch. Gamecock freshman starter Audrey Broyles (10-10) got a three-pitch strikeout of Jessica Mouse before Shortridge put the ball over the wall in right to clear the bases and give the Tigers a 5-0 advantage.

The home team tacked on two more two-out runs in the fourth when Juliana Santos had her fly to left sneak over the wall about four feet fair for her fourth homer of the season. Mouse scored on the homer after leading off the inning with a single.

The Tigers wrapped things up in the fifth when Shortridge drew a bases-loaded walk with two down to score pinch-runner Tiffany Shaw from third.

Broyles got the loss, allowing five runs, one earned, on three hits and a walk in 1.2 innings. Cody Trahan (8-5) picked up the win, giving up just two hits and one walk while fanning seven in the five-inning complete game.
