BATON ROUGE, La. – South Carolina got a hit to start the game but not much more as the Gamecocks (20-22, 5-19 SEC) fell to No. 19/21 LSU, 4-0, in the final game of a three-game series at new Tiger Park.
The Tigers (30-14-1, 13-9-1 SEC) put three runs on the board in the fourth, getting an RBI triple from Juliana Santos, an RBI groundout from Ashley Applegate and an Anissa Young RBI single. The fourth run came in the fifth when LSU strung together three consecutive singles, the final coming from Santos to plate Kirsten Shortridge, who started the sequence with a two-out hit.
LSU pitcher Cody Trahan (9-5) threw all but one pitch in the one-hit shutout, striking out five while hitting one batter. South Carolina’s Audrey Broyles (10-12) got the loss, allowing two earned runs in one-third of an inning, facing three batters. Ashley Chastain was effective in her second start of the season, giving up two hits while facing the minimum thru three innings.
Junior Adele Voigt had the only Gamecock hit, while both Lindsay Walker and Kristen Stubblefield reached base for the Gamecocks.
South Carolina wraps up regular season action next weekend at home with a three-game series against Kentucky.
