2009-10 Schedule in PDF Format

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Four home meets, including match-ups with SEC foes Kentucky and Vanderbilt, highlight the 2009-10 South Carolina swimming & diving season schedule, which was released Friday by head coach McGee Moody.

“We’re excited about the schedule we’ve put together,” head coach McGee Moody said. “We’re going to have a lot of competitive meets. There are a lot of Top 25 programs on the front end of our schedule, and then we finish with some solid competition as well. I think we’re looking at our best dual-meet season in several years.”

The Gamecocks will start off with what is sure to be a tightly-contested dual meet with the Kentucky Wildcats on Oct. 9 at the Carolina Natatorium. The Wildcat men finished one spot ahead of South Carolina at last year’s SEC Championships, while the Gamecock women were two spots ahead of Kentucky. The following weekend will see a three-way meet at North Carolina with another ACC foe, Virginia Tech, also in the mix.

Oct. 30 will see the Gamecocks making the trek to the Upstate for the annual rivalry showdown with Clemson, where both the Gamecock men and women will look for their second straight wins over the Tigers. The next week will present a stern test as Carolina travels to Rocky Top for another SEC showdown with Tennessee (Nov. 6).

The swimmers will wrap up the fall season at the second annual Gamecock Invitational, which will be held Nov. 19-21 at the Carolina Natatorium with a field to be announced. The Gamecocks finished second in both men’s and women’s competition in last year’s event. Coach Todd Sherritt’s divers will have one more event before the holiday break as they will travel to the Ohio State Invitational from Dec. 3-5.

The spring season will kick off with a non-conference tilt at the College of Charleston on Jan. 9, followed by a home dual meet with Duke on Jan. 16. Senior day festivities will take place Jan. 23 as Carolina welcomes UNC-Wilmington and Vanderbilt to Columbia, and the regular season will wrap up Jan. 30 with a three-way meet with Georgia and Alabama in Athens, Ga.

Athens will also play host to the 2010 SEC Championships, which run Feb. 17-20 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the Georgia campus. The women’s NCAA Championships will run March 18-20 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., and the men’s NCAA Championships are set for the following week (March 25-27) in Columbus, Ohio, on the campus of Ohio State.
