GREENVILLE, S.C. — The South Carolina women’s tennis team wrapped up play in the Furman Fall Classic on Sunday in Greenville, S.C., with each of its six representatives playing one round of singles.

Anya Morgina tallied an impressive win in the first flight by defeating 46th-ranked Catherine Newman of Vanderbilt in three sets. Morgina lost the first set 6-1 but rallied to win the next two 6-3, 6-3 to pick up her first career victory against a ranked opponent.

Adriana Pereira scored the Gamecocks’ other win on the day in flight six. She defeated Tennessee’s Zsofia Zubor 6-3, 7-6(2) to earn third place. Pereira held a 5-3 advantage in the second set before Zubor came back to win the next two games. Pereira then held serve and Zubor did the same to force a tiebreaker.

Madeleine Saari-Byström suffered a tough loss in flight three to No. 99 Ina Hadziselimovic of Clemson. Hadziselimovic won the first set 6-2, but Saari-Byström recovered to win the second 6-3. In the third, Hadziselimovic managed to break Saari-Byström at 4-all after several deuces and then held for the win.

In the championship of flight five, Miljana Jocic lost a 6-3, 6-0 decision to No. 40 Samantha Murray from Northwestern. Dijana Stojic lost to one of Murray’s teammates, No. 89 Lauren Lui, in flight two by a 6-2, 7-6(2) count, and Josefin Andersson fell in her flight four match to No. 95 Keilly Ulery of Vanderbilt 6-0, 6-2.

Four Gamecocks will head to Ann Arbor, Mich., next weekend for the Michigan Invitational.
