The 23rd-ranked University of South Carolina football team (5-2, 2-2 SEC) continued its preparations for Saturday’s SEC showdown with the Vanderbilt Commodores (2-5, 0-4 SEC) by working out at the Bluff Road practice fields for about two hours on Wednesday afternoon. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Tickets remain for the game, which will be televised nationally on ESPNU with Eric Collins and Brock Huard describing the action.
“We’ll see if we can play those Vandy guys a little better than we have the last couple of years,” said head coach Steve Spurrier following Wednesday’s practice.
The Gamecocks may be without the services of tight end Weslye Saunders. “Weslye has a bad ankle,” confirmed the Head Ball Coach. “He’s doubtful for the game. Justice (Cunningham) will get the start again. The same injury (that sidelined him for a game earlier this season) flared up on him the other day at practice, so he hasn’t been able to practice, so Justice is all set to start in there. We’ll see how Weslye is later in the week.”
The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields again on Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
