The University of South Carolina football team (6-5, 3-5 SEC) worked out Wednesday afternoon at the Bluff Road practice fields. The team is enjoying its only bye week of the season this weekend, and will host Clemson for the Palmetto State bragging rights on Saturday, November 28. Game time is set for noon at Williams-Brice Stadium and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
“We had a pretty good practice this afternoon,” said head coach Steve Spurrier. “Coach Herman Boone from “Remember the Titans” fame spoke to the team today. He’s speaking at the University tonight. So it was nice to have Coach Boone out here.
“We had a little “Monday Night Football” here on Wednesday,” continued Coach Spurrier. “Reid McCollum threw some good balls and Andrew Clifford threw some good ones. Some of our young receivers made some nice grabs. Defensively, they had some nice plays here and there also. It’s a chance to let some of these younger guys play today.
“Cliff Matthews should be close to full speed, I think,” noted the Head Ball Coach. “But right now Clifton Geathers and maybe Melvin (Ingram) are our starting defensive ends. That’s the way it appears right now. Devin (Taylor) is back practicing, so he’ll be ready to play.”
The Gamecocks are scheduled to return to the practice fields on Thursday afternoon.
