COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina boasted a league-best 78 student-athletes on the 2009 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll, which was announced today by SEC Commissioner Mike Slive.
Overall, 547 student-athletes were named to the Fall Academic Honor Roll from the league’s 12 institutions. The University of Georgia was next behind the Gamecocks with 54 honorees, while Alabama and Florida both put 51 student-athletes on the list.
The 2009 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2009 Spring, Summer and Fall terms. A student-athlete must have a 3.00 grade point average during the preceding academic year (two semesters) or a cumulative GPA at or above 3.00.
South Carolina’s football team led the way with 29 selections. Men’s soccer had 19 student-athletes recognized, while women’s soccer had 18 student-athletes honored and volleyball put 12 on the list. The complete list for South Carolina follows:
