CHARLOTTE, N.C. – South Carolina’s Corrine Carr advanced to the second round of match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship after a thrilling match with Brooke Pancake on Wednesday at Charlotte Country Club.

Carr, a native of Pinehurst, N.C., defeated the Alabama junior in 20 holes after never leading in the match until she sank the clinching putt. Pancake won the first hole to go 1 up and only lost three holes through her first 15, but Carr would finally square the match for good at the 16th after trailing nearly the whole way.

The pair matched pars at 17 and 18, sending the match back to the starting hole and sudden-death overtime. A pair of pars at the 19th sent it to a second extra hole, where Carr made par to Pancake’s bogey to take the come-from-behind victory.

Carr will face Sydnee Michaels, a recent graduate of UCLA and an alternate on the 2010 U.S. Curtis Cup team, in Thursday’s second round. Their match is set to tee off at 8:10 a.m. with the winner advancing to play in the afternoon against the winner of the match between Jungeun Han and Ariya Jutanugam. Live scoring is available through USGA.org.
