Sept. 7, 2010

The University of South Carolina football squad has moved into the Top 25 in the national rankings following its convincing 41-13 season opening win over Southern Miss.

The Gamecocks (1-0, 0-0 SEC) head into this week’s SEC opener against Georgia (1-0, 0-0 SEC) ranked 24th in the latest Associated Press poll and 25th in this week’s Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs are ranked 22nd and 19th in the two polls, respectively.

This marks the fourth straight year that Carolina has been ranked in the Top 25. The 2009 squad was ranked for four consecutive weeks, climbing as high as No. 21 following a win over Vanderbilt before a loss to Tennessee knocked them out of the polls for the remainder of the season.

Saturday’s game will mark the first time that Carolina and Georgia enter the contest as a pair of ranked opponents since the 2003 season when eighth-ranked Georgia defeated 25th-ranked South Carolina, 31-7 in Athens.

Game time is set for 12:01 p.m. on Saturday with ESPN2 televising the action to a national audience.
