ROCKY FACE, Ga. – South Carolina improved by a shot over its first-round output, posting a 297 (+9) to remain in 10th place at the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Saturday. Three Gamecocks shot matching 74s to lead the team at The Farm Golf Club.

True freshmen Blaine Woodruff and Logan Harrell, along with sophomore Clint Tolleson, posted scores of 2-over-par 74 to lead South Carolina on Saturday. Starting on the 10th hole, Woodruff had two birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to make the turn at even par, and got to 1-under after a bogey at No. 1 and birdies at Nos. 2 and 3. But a double-bogey at the fourth and bogey at No. 5 dropped him to 2-over for the day. Woodruff is in 35th place through two rounds.

Harrell also had two birdies and two bogeys on his opening nine, but a double-bogey at the 15th dropped him to 2-over at the turn. But a three-birdie, three-bogey front nine gave him an even-par 36 for a 2-over day. Tolleson opened his round with a double-bogey at the 10th, then carded three birdies along with a bogey to make the turn even for the day. However, three bogeys in seven holes on the front nine dropped him to 3-over before he carded birdie at No. 9 to finish with a 74. Tolleson and Harrell share 39th place with one round to play.

Junior Wesley Bryan was much improved over his first round, posting a 3-over-par 75 to improve by 10 shots over his opening 18. It was an up-and-down round that included seven bogeys and four birdies; this after making the turn at even par. He had three straight bogeys to begin his second nine, then played even-par golf the rest of the way with two more birdies and bogeys.

After an even-par 72 on Friday, sophomore Dean Hester fought his way to an 80 (+8) in the second round. After four pars to open, he went double-triple on 14 and 15 to drop to 5-over, then made the turn at 4-over after birdie at 16. But he bogeyed four of his last six holes to wrap up the day.

Clemson holds the team lead at 10-under 566 after a second straight round of 283 (-5); Alabama is a stroke back at 9-under. Auburn’s Blayne Barber (-9) holds a one-shot lead over Evan Beck of Wake Forest in the individual standings.

The Gamecocks are paired with Ole Miss and East Tennessee State for Sunday’s final round, and they will go off the 10th tee beginning at 8 a.m. Live scoring is available through golfstat.com.
