Sept. 13, 2010

University of South Carolina freshman tailback Marcus Lattimore has been selected as the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and the SEC Freshman of the Week following his outstanding performance in the Gamecocks’ 17-6 win over Georgia on Saturday, the league office announced today.

Lattimore, a 6-0, 218-pounder from Duncan, S.C., rushed for 182 yards on 37 carries and scored the game’s only two touchdowns in his first SEC contest on Saturday. The 37 carries is a freshman school record and was the third-highest single game mark in Carolina history. The 182-yards rushing was the most by a Gamecock since the 2000 season. He shared Offensive Player of the Week honors with Alabama running back Trent Richardson.

After two games, Lattimore has rushed 51 times for 236 yards and four touchdowns. He is averaging 118.0 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry. The South Carolina freshman single season rushing record is held by Thomas Dendy, who rushed for 848 yards in 1982.

Lattimore and the No. 13/16 Gamecocks (2-0, 1-0 SEC) will host in-state rival Furman (1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Tickets priced at $35 each remain on sale for the 7 p.m. ET contest. The game will be televised throughout the Palmetto State on a pay-per-view basis. Check with your local cable or satellite provider for more information.
