University of South Carolina offensive standouts Marcus Lattimore and Alshon Jeffery are mid-season additions to the watch list for the 74th annual Maxwell Award, it was announced today.
Lattimore, a 6-0, 218-pound true freshman tailback, ranks fifth in the SEC and 35th in the country in rushing, averaging 91.8 yards per game. He has carried the ball 107 times for 459 yards. He also is second in the league and 11th in the country in scoring, averaging 10.8 points per game with nine touchdowns in five contests.
Jeffery, a 6-4, 233-pound sophomore wide receiver, leads the SEC and is third in the country in receiving yards per game at 125.0, and leads the SEC and is 13th in the nation in receptions per game at 6.80. The Gamecock wide receiver has caught 34 passes for 625 yards and four touchdowns in five games this season, including four 100-yard efforts.
The Maxwell Award has been presented to the outstanding collegiate football player in America since 1937 and is named in honor of sportswriter Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced on November 8th and three finalists for each award will be announced November 22nd. The winner of the 2010 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show which will be held on December 9, 2010. The formal presentation of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Harrah’s Entertainment Atlantic City on March 4, 2011.
The watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club’s Selection Committee and the Maxwell Club reserves the right to make additions and subtractions to these lists as the 2010 season unfolds. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA Sports Information Directors, Head Coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for these awards.
