University of South Carolina tailback Marcus Lattimore has been selected as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week following his performance in last Saturday’s 69-24 win over Troy.
Lattimore, a 6-0, 218-pounder from Duncan, S.C. carried the ball just seven times but rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns in the win. All three of his scores came in the first 6:30 of the game. He scored on a 17-yard run on Carolina’s first play from scrimmage, then added scoring bursts of eight and five yards. He did not play in the second half and had just one carry after the first period.
Lattimore has scored a school record 19 touchdowns this season, one shy of the SEC freshman record of 20, set by Tennessee’s Reggie Cobb in 1987.
Lattimore’s 1,066 rushing yards this season is also seventh among freshmen in SEC history. He is the first Carolina back to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark since the 2000 season.
