COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina will face teams from last year’s NCAA Softball Tournament in 26 games during a 56-game schedule for 2011 released by head coach Beverly Smith today. The Gamecocks also are slated to host 27 home games at historic Beckham Field.
The Gamecocks open the 2011 season with the Palmetto State Showdown, facing in-state foes Charleston Southern, Furman, Coastal Carolina and USC Upstate while Winthrop will also participate. Other non-conference events South Carolina will play are Feb. 18-20 at Florida Gulf Coast University and March 5-6 at Florida Atlantic. Also on the non-conference slate are matchups against ACC teams North Carolina and NC State as well as Charlotte and Longwood.
Playing in one of the toughest conferences in the country, the Southeastern Conference, South Carolina hosts 2010 division winners Alabama and Florida during the season as well as three-game sets against Kentucky and Mississippi. Out of the 26 games against NCAA Tournament teams, 21 come against SEC foes, including eight games versus teams that advanced into the Women’s College World Series.
Season tickets, which would be good for admission to any game of the Palmetto State Showdown and all 27 games at Beckham Field, are on sale at 800-4SC-FANS for $25 per adult and $10 for children 17 and under.
