South Carolina vs. Arkansas Post Game Notes

TEAM NOTES

• South Carolina moves into a tie for the SEC lead with a 3-1 conference record.
• Wednesday’s game was the third overtime game of the season for South Carolina and second consecutive home game to go to overtime.
• The match is the second straight game to go to overtime between South Carolina and Arkansas at Colonial Life Arena. The Gamecocks won an 82-78 overtime decision against the Razorbacks at Colonial Life Arena on Feb. 21, 2009.
• South Carolina head coach Darrin Horn is now 4-1 in overtime games as head coach of the Gamecocks.
• South Carolina had not played three overtime games in a single season since the 2005-06 team played four overtime games (three in the regular season, one in the NIT).
• Darrin Horn earns his 100th home victory as a head coach, moving to 100-20 (.833) all-time in his coaching career. He is now 37-9 at Colonial Life Arena as coach of the Gamecocks.
• South Carolina has won eight of the last 12 meetings with the Razorbacks. The Gamecocks also now hold a 6-4 advantage in home games against Arkansas.
• The first field goal of the game occurred at 17:00 when South Carolina’s Sam Muldrow hit a jump shot to make the game 2-1.
• South Carolina’s bench outscored Arkansas’s bench 21-5 in the first half and 36-17 for the overall game.
• Wednesday’s game featured the two premier shot blockers in the SEC in South Carolina’s Sam Muldrow and Arkansas’s Delvon Johnson. Muldrow finished with six blocks to Johnson’s four.
• South Carolina led 47-45 with 13:38 remaining in the game, but two turnovers and three shooting fouls over the next three minutes pushed Arkansas to a 56-47 lead at the 10:43 mark in a 9-0 run.
• Two Malik Cooke free throws with 1:30 remaining tied the game at 70-70.
• Five Gamecocks scored in double figures – Ramon Galloway (21), Sam Muldrow (20), Bruce Ellington (13), Lakeem Jackson (10) and Malik Cooke (11).
• South Carolina has scored 11 points in both SEC overtime victories (Vanderbilt, Arkansas) and has outscored the two conference opponents 22-7 in the overtime periods (11-3 vs Vanderbilt; 11-4 vs Arkansas). In Carolina’s other overtime game this season, the Gamecocks outscored Western Kentucky 12-10 in the extra period.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

#15 Malik Cooke
• Posted his first career double-double as a Gamecock with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
• Went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, tying a career high for free throws made in a game.

#23 Bruce Ellington
• Tied his best mark in conference play with four assists.

#12 Ramon Galloway
• Led Carolina with 13 points in the first half of the game on 5-for-8 shooting (1-for-2 3-pointers) and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
• Tied his career-best against SEC competition with 21 points scored. Galloway also scored 21 in last season’s home game against Alabama (March 3, 2010). The 21 points scored is one shy of his career high of 22 set against Western Kentucky earlier this season.

#44 Sam Muldrow
• Collected six blocks and is now just 19 blocks away from surpassing Brandon Wallace (249) for first place in the Gamecock history books. Muldrow currently has 231 blocks for his career.
• With his second block of the game at the 11:17 mark, Muldrow surpassed Jeff Roulston (226) for fourth in South Carolina history in career blocks with his 227th career block.
• Hit a game-clinching 3-pointer for the second consecutive game. Muldrow’s 3-pointer against Florida iced the victory last Saturday, and his trey at the 1:45 mark in overtime Wednesday gave Carolina a 76-70 lead.
• In his last two games against Arkansas, Muldrow has averaged 21.5 points (23 points and 20 points).

#33 R.J. Slawson
• Hit his third career three-pointer – and first since the season opener against Elon – with a first half trey to make the score 14-9.

#5 Eric Smith
• Saw his most extensive action in SEC play this season with 18 minutes played.

#1 Stephen Spinella
• Saw his first action against SEC competition this season with two minutes in the first half.

UP NEXT

• South Carolina continues SEC play on Saturday, hosting No. 13 Kentucky in a primetime matchup on ESPN at 6 p.m. The Gamecocks have won three of the last four meetings between the two SEC East rivals.
