COLUMBIA, S.C. – Bobby Cave from the swimming team as been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.
Cave was a huge catalyst in the Gamecocks’ victory over Alabama on Saturday, winning all three of his events (when scoring the meet vs. Alabama). He was the overall winner in the 100 breaststroke, clocking a 56.27 to finish ahead of three of the top 10 breaststrokers in the SEC. He then came back in the 200 breast to post a 2:01.76, finishing just .40 seconds behind Georgia’s Bill Cregar.
But his most impressive showing was in the 400 IM – an event he was swimming for the first time in his collegiate career – where he posted a 4:00.58 to finish third overall and clinch the win over Alabama for the Gamecocks. Cave also swam the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay, earning a second-place overall finish (a win over Alabama) with a 1:31.95.
