WILMINGTON, N.C. – Junior Wesley Bryan and freshman Blaine Woodruff are in the top 10 through two rounds at the Seahawk Invitational after the Gamecocks posted rounds of 304-285=589 (+13) on Sunday at the Country Club of Landfall Nicklaus Course.

After a tough first 18 holes that saw the Gamecocks shoot a 16-over-par 304, South Carolina put together a stellar afternoon round that saw them post a 3-under-par 285 – tying for the low round of the tournament – and move up the leaderboard to fifth place, one shot behind fourth-place Liberty and 11 strokes out of the tournament lead.

Bryan, a junior from Chapin, S.C., had his best 36 holes since the second tournament of the season with rounds of 75-69=144 (E) as he finds himself in a four-way tie for fifth place. His second-round 69 tied a season-best for Bryan and equaled the second-best round of the day as he moved from a tie for 22nd after one round to a tie for fifth heading into Monday’s final 18 holes.

Woodruff was one shot higher than Bryan with a 76-69=145 (+1), jumping up the leaderboard from a tie for 28th place to a tie for ninth place through two rounds. It was the team-best fifth round at par or better for the freshman from Acworth, Ga., who looks to maintain the team lead in scoring average as the spring season gets underway.

Sophomore Dean Hester opened the day with a 5-over-par 77, but responded with an even-par round of 72 in the afternoon round to move into 23rd place at 149 (+5) through two rounds. Fellow sophomore Dykes Harbin shot a 76-76=152 (+8) and freshman Logan Harrell posted rounds of 77-75=152 (+8) as both are tied for 33rd place.

Wake Forest leads the tournament after rounds of 291-287=578 (+2), two shots ahead of East Carolina at 580 (+4). Tournament host UNC Wilmington is third at 583 (+7). Individually, Wake Forest’s Charlie Harrison holds the lead at 3-under after rounds of 72-69=141, with UNCW individual Ryan Sullivan a shot back. David Watkins and Zach Edmondson, both of ECU, are tied for third at 1-under.

The 12-team field will play the final 18 holes of the event Monday. A full recap will follow on GamecocksOnline.com.
