ATHENS, Ga. – Seven athletes competed in five events Friday night as the South Carolina track and field teams concluded the first day of competition at the Spec Towns Invitational.

The Gamecocks had athletes hit personal bests in four of the five events, including in all three events that members of the women’s team competed in. Junior Radiance Basden took fifth in the triple jump at a personal best mark of 41’9 ¾ (12.74m), becoming the first woman to crack the school’s top five list since 2005.

The throws trio of Breanna Radford, Stacee Roberts and Katie Vuckovich all competed in the shot put and hammer throw. Radford placed fourth in the shot put at a personal best 48’9 ½ (14.87m) and took 20th in the hammer throw at 147-01. Roberts took sixth in the shot put at 48’0 (14.63m) and 21st in the hammer throw at 141-07. Vuckovich claimed personal bests in both events, placing ninth in the shot put at 47’3 ½ (14.41m) and 22nd in the hammer throw at 133-11.

The 20th-ranked men’s team had athletes compete in the triple jump and hammer throw. In the triple jump, sophomore Lincoln Carr and freshman Dorian Johnson both hit outdoor personal bests with Carr placing fourth and Johnson placing sixth. Carr’s mark was 51’4 ½ (15.66m) and moves the sophomore up to third in the Gamecock all-time record books. Johnson’s mark was 49’6 ½ (15.10m).

Senior Michael Zajac placed sixth overall in the hammer throw with a toss of 193-0 (58.84m).

Action continues tomorrow as South Carolina concludes competition for the week at the Spec Towns Invitational.
