South Carolina rising sophomore Gerard Rodriquez won the 400 freestyle event at Spanish Nationals in Maturo, Spain, on Saturday. Rodriquez won the event with a time of 3:58.30, winning by two-tenths of a second in front of the second-place finisher.

Rodriquez was solid during his freshman season of 2010-11 for Carolina, advancing to the consolation finals of the 200 and 500 free at the SEC Championships, while a member of the school record-setting 800 freestyle relay team at the event.
