The South Carolina Gamecocks held their second practice of the fall camp Thursday night at the Bluff Road practice fields. It was another hot, muggy night in Columbia, as the Gamecocks worked out in front of a sparse crowd in helmets and shorts.

“There’s a lot of talent out here,” said running back Marcus Lattimore. “There’s a lot of great athletes out here. Everybody’s moving around – everybody’s excited. They know we’ve got a chance.”

Freshman Shon Carson has impressed Lattimore in the early going. “Just his quickness. He’s a natural running back. He can catch the ball. He can do everything.”

Lattimore said that the preseason number 12 national ranking given the squad by the coaches in the USA Today poll was “pretty good,” but he thinks it will get better. “We have to prove it on the practice field and continue to get better.”

Alshon Jeffery returned to the practice fields after sitting the first day after suffering a mild back injury in a car accident earlier in the week.

The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
