PALO ALTO, Calif. – South Carolina swimmers continued competition at day four of the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships at Stanford University’s Avery Aquatic Center in Palo Alto, Calif., on Friday. Junior Brooks Ross posted the top mark of the day as he turned in an Olympic Trial cut time in the 1500 free.

Junior Whitney Avers swam in the preliminary round of the 200 meter butterfly, posting a time of 2:19.23, while teammates senior Christopher Kelly (2:10.81), junior Collin Kaden (2:08.20) and redshirt-freshman Matt Navata (2:06.72) all competed in the preliminary heats of the men’s 200 individual medley.

Ross and junior Matt Columbus each competed in the men’s 1500 meter freestyle. The duo posted times of 15:53.12 and 15:53.85, respectively. Ross’ time was within the Olympic Trial cut of 15:53.59.

Columbus, Kaden, Ross and Michael Flach turned in a time of 7:39.97 in the 4×200 free relay in Friday’s night session.

South Carolina will conclude action at Nationals on Saturday. Updated live results can be found at USA Swimming’s website (usaswimming.org).
