DAEGU, South Korea – Former South Carolina Gamecock Lashinda Demus easily outpaced the competition Tuesday night to qualify for the 400-meter hurdle final in the 13th IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Demus was the only woman to break 53 seconds in Tuesday’s semifinal, taking first at 53.82 to earn her bid to the final. The Team USA member is one race away from her first major international individual gold medal. Demus earned silver at the World Outdoor Championships in both 2005 and 2009 in the 400-meter hurdles. She has however tasted gold at the meet as a member of the USA 4×400-meter relay team at the last installment of the championships in Berlin (2009).

The final will be run Thursday night at Daegu Stadium. No members with Gamecock ties are competing in Day Five action on Wednesday.
